ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I visit your blog, and I was wondering if you could answer a question for me:
I am a young ethnic swedish woman, and not a muslim. I love muslima fashion because I prefer to look well dressed and mysterious/leave my body to men's imagination. But I have been thinking about this for a long time: how come muslimas who want to cover their faces always use a niqab or burqa? It would be much more fun to wrap ones head in a colorful scarf and style the coverage in a personal way, no?
I remember a study many years ago that showed that Saudi women are the most concious of their looks in the whole world (underneath their niqabs). So the issue is obviously not about a lacking interest in fashion or creativity. As you probably know, Sweden does not have any laws on how to dress, you can wear whatever you like as long as you don't frighten children or little old ladies :) And yet, whenever I see muslim women in Sweden with their faces covered (except for the eyes) they're always wearing niqab. Of course, being a liberal country, we don't have a lot of fully covered women about. But the few times I have seen one it's been the same thing: a black tent.
I personally find an entirely black-covered face+body a bit unsettling. It would be a lot nicer to have something like this:
