Rompers...Really??

OKAY, this trend is now in every store geared towards the younger crowd, but us middle aged and older gals will remember that rompers are from waaaay back! There's a good romper and a bad romper in my opinion. Below is an example of BAD for anyone older than age 6:

I'm sorry, but if I come by and you answer the door in anything resembling this, I will not be able to take anything you say seriously! Especially in florals, I think it looks incredibly childish for a grown woman. Romper shorts and harem pants I will not do!! Never! But a LONG romper, I could say yes to! I've seen a few long pant rompers in stores with super wide legs like below, and with a long-sleeve cover-up it would make a very modest and COMFY summer outfit for the trendy Muslim lady. Lounge around in it indoors too! What do you think?

$30 or $300 Abaya ?!

I've blogged about http://www.eastessence.com/ before, so if you've read those posts, you probably know the answer to this quiz already! Take a look at this lovely drapey abaya below and tell me, does it look like a $30 abaya, or a $300 abaya?

Georgeous isn't it? I don't buy a lot of abayas, but I'm thinking about this one...The drape is exquisite, and the embellished empire waistline is flattering to most figures. How much? Drumroll.......$39! Yup, eastessence has a lot of stylish abayas and jilbabs for $20-$40 and long tunics for even less! I've ordered from there before and was pleasantly surprised with the quality at this price point!

Modest Finds from Olsen

I'm lucky to live next to one of the largest malls in Canada, and it's even got some designer outlet stores in it, like Olsen! Olsen is an expensive, sophisticated store/label, where individual tops and skirts can go for $200 each, but check out these finds that were all on sale for about $30! I always seem to find some modest skirts and tops there, even hijabs! So next time you see an Olsen store, stop and have a look! You may find some modest clothes as well!

Thin cotton pinstriped top with long linen skirt.

Long, luxurious cotton, patterned skirt (I usually wear this with a shorter brown jacket). They were selling this pattern in a maxi dress too! Love Olsen!  Quality all the way.

Capsters Review!

Summary: LOVE THEM! I was lucky enough to get my hands on some Capsters head covers/sporty hijabs. I've been aware of this brand for years, but this is the first time I tried them on! I don't mean to be melodramtic, but I think I actually got a tear in my eye when I received these! Why? Because it's products like these that not only change how Muslim women FEEL (more comfortable) but also change our lifestyles for the better! I really think that more Muslim girls and women will be active in sports and around the community because of products like these. The only other product I've felt this strongly about is my Burqini (Ahiida brand) which allowed me to go swimming in public for the first time four years ago. Anyways, no more tears :) Here are the ones I got:

This is the Capsters "Basic" (cotton). I think it's the perfect sports hijab for walking, biking, gardening, or any  activity that needs a comfy, well-fitted hijab. Women will like that the fabric reaches longer in the front of this one, which gives you more options as to the shirt you wear (it need not be high-collar). What you can't tell from the photo is that there is a long strip of velcro at the front, so you basically just place this on your head, velcro at the front, and you're done! Quick and comfy! Love it. Now the reason I don't recommend it for sports is because I find the velcro a bit stiff if I move my head around a lot like you would in a game.

This is the "Team" Capster, and I wish they had modeled it with a team jersey and in white because it's hard to tell what it really looks like in this photo! You just place this on your head like the "Basic" and it velcros shut with small velcro tabs at the side of the neck. You will need a jersey or higher collar shirt (not like a turtle-neck, just not a deep scoop neck) because it doesn't reach far in the front. This hijab is super comfortable for sports! It's fitted so well around the head and the lack of excess fabric in the front and back is great for moving your head around without bulk! Less fabric = less to fuss over too! You can't telll, but the stiching at the top looks similar to the "Runner" below. It really does look more sporty than any amira hijab and fits like a glove. It's a really soft, light-weight cotton! Awesome. If I ever coach a girl's team I will buy this for the whole team!

This is the "Runner". I like that this hijab has no velcro. You just pop your head through it! And I REALLY like the fabric! It's that ultra-thin sporty material with tiny holes in it, so it's breathable and light! The fit, as with all the Capsters is near perfectly shaped to the head. The design is awesome with the two-tones which always look sporty to me. LOVE this hijab for...yes, running! Actually I remcommend it for any strenuous activity or sport! The lightest fabric, the least amount of fabric, and no closures at all! A lower front, so you will need a higher collar. *Recommend, Recommend, Recommend*!
This beauty is the "Aerobics" Capster. What a stylish design! It looks athletic yet somehow elegant! Love the black and white! Looks like you will need a higher collar with this one; I don't actually own this one, but I think I will very soon! I just love the way it looks so much I had to include it!

BTW, each Capster comes packaged in a lovely zipped tote-bag, which you will probably use if you love your capsters as much as me and want to keep them safe when you travel!

Thank you Capsters!!

Got my Order from TuleenShop.com!

Here's an update! I ordered a LOAD of silky hijabs from http://www.tuleenshop.com/ and...woo-hoo! EXACTLY what I was hoping for! Great quality, super thin, and the chic patterns that I've been looking for. Tuleenshop has a great selection of colors so I was also able to find solid colors to match shirts that I haven't found matching scarves for in years!

Listen, if you don't wear silk in the summer, you HAVE to give it a try! I'm not talking about the thick square silk scarves that slip all over the place that we see on the models. These are thin, obong, and non-slip. I found that because these are mainly "georgette" silk they have a slight grip to them that keeps them in place perfectlly  when wrapped! Don't wory about how thin they are because when there's a lot of color they're not sheer once you wrap'em! This kind of silk is sooooo cool and light in the summer heat, you barely feel you have one on. At this price, you owe it to yourself to give it a try!

By the way, if you're wondering what the cotton-viscose scarves are like, I ordered one and it's lovely! Almost feels like silk as well; I love it! The cotton-silk blend is beautiful as well, but it doesn't have the same drape as the others and it feels more like cotton than silk. BUT it's still really comfortable and the patterns are so much fun that I will definitey be wearing mine with my active-wear outfits.

Sunshine & Butterflies!

Break out the summer colors! If I see any of you still walking around in blacks or greys I'll be VERY disappointed! This Shukr shirt is shown in the color "Sunshine" and since I have this shirt I can tell you that it's actually a bit brighter  than how it looks on screen - which is great! The hijabs are from http://www.jannahgifts.om/ where you can find a variety of summery colors and patterns!

SETRMS Launch

The popular Turkish brand SETRMS has just launched their online store. It looks like they're still filling up their online catalogue, but you should definitely check it out now at www.setrms.co.uk.

They carry what us North Americans might call "formal-wear" but overseas it's probably every-day-wear for some! These beautifully tailored jackets and suits will  have you looking like you came straight off a fashion runway. The prices are a bit above average, but not overly expensive. Oh, and yes, they deliver world-wide!

Now if only I could figure out how to pronounce the name..!?
