UmmahCouture

Salam! WOW where has the time gone?! Sometimes I get caught up in the real world..but I do have some product reviews to share with you this week! The bad news is Blogger has gone crazy and I can't seem to upload any photos right now! Don't worry I'm sure they'll fix it soon, just bare with my photoless posts plz...

The good news is I discovered a cute little store called UmmahCouture.com which has two products in particular I liked so much I wanted to review them myself.

First, the Pocket Prayer Mat! How cute is this idea?! It's a prayer mat that folds up so small into it's own case that you can store it in your purse, briefcase, backpack, or the glove compartment of your car! Perfect for travel! The material is similar to that of a tablecloth, plastic most likely, definitely not soft cotton, but that's better for outdoors so it won't pick up dirt and you can just wipe it clean when needed. I love this product, and it's such an inexpensive ($3.50) and unique gift - hey, finally a great Islamic gift idea for a man! Comes in 5 different colors!

The second product I love is the cotton/silk hijabs...I have one and it's very soft and drapey with a faint vine-like pattern all over. Love it! And LOVE the price: only $7.99! Comes in 12 colors!

Another hijab I love on their site is the floral one that comes in 3 great fall colors: green, brown, and sea foam (bluish green)..gonna order me one of those next!

IGAL Hijab!?

Somebody please tell me what Igal means! This hijab style is, I believe, exclusive to MuslimBase.com, click here to view, and it appears to be another Kuwaiti style hijab...it's basically an oblong hijab with two ties in the middle so when you place the hijab on your head you tie them behind your head and then wrap the ends how you like. Neat idea! PLUS, I love the lovely little BRAID that's across the top of these! See the youtube video tutorial click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pr5W51dFcc4

HIJAB HEAVEN!!!

WOW I've found hijab heaven at http://www.muslimbase.com/ ! Now, I don't usually buy from overseas because I'm impatient and scared of international shipping - although there are tons of great hijab stores in the UK - but I will make an exception because this store has just about every style and color of hijab and caps you might need (and international shipping is low)! These two above they call "Lebanese Hijabs"..do they wear these in Lebanon I wonder? I don't recall that when I was there but that was a few years ago. Maybe they are made in Lebanon? Whatever - they're cool, and I know it looks different than what we're used to, but I think these kind of styles may just catch on in the next few years because they just seem modern and chic, maybe even more professional...

Now check out these lovely colors below: can you believe that these two scarves are between $2-4 each!!? Yippee!

And they have tons of Kuwaiti hijabs, both the "joint" style (ends are joined, twisted before pulling over your head in a drapey fashion like below) and the loose end style (where one long piece is attached to the under cap to wrap around).

One more style that's unique to this store called the Igal style I'll cover in my next post....CHECK IT OUT!

Discover FASHION TAPE!

If you don't have some "fashion tape", you need to go get some, cuz it comes in handy in sooo many ways, especially for modest/hijaby girls. You can pick this up at any sewing store, craft store, tailors, probably even walmart, or online at stores such as Joann's ...

Anyways, here's what you can do with this stuff:

  • Place a bit between your hijab and your shirt at the chest to make sure your hijab stays in place for those deep-cut shirts when you don't want to wear an undershirt.
  • If you play sports, use bits of tape between your jersey and your hijab to keep it tucked into your jersely.
  • If you suddenly notice a loose hem in your skirt or pants, just stick a bit between the fabric for a quick fix!

This brand above is called Hollywood fashion tape, and it's quite pricey at about $8 for these pre-cut strips, but you can find MUCH cheaper version that are un-cut, such as Singer's which is 5 yards for $3.50 so you can just snip it up yourself!

It's super-handy!!

GREAT GIFTS & TOYS!! A++

Yaye! I got my Aroosa Dolls and outfits from http://www.muslimtoysanddolls.com/ in time for Eid gifting - and what precious Eid gifts they'll make inshallah! They came professionally packaged in pink boxes, and the quality of the clothes are exceptional! The best features of the dolls are that they 1) have dark hair (move over Barbie!) and 2) have life-like eyelashes. After playing with them a bit though we did notice that the knees do NOT bend and the hair could use some more volume. The details and the stitching on the clothing are superb. I LOVE how each little outfit comes with a matching hijab and shoes too! Little girls (and their mothers) will adore these realistic outfits for sure, and will wish they could buy them in their own sizes!

Oh and I forgot to mention last time that this site is a CHARITY SITE. Most of the proceeds go to help Muslim families both overseas and in the U.S.!

I also ordered some inexpensive Islamic jewelery which looks even nicer than I had thought it would, some small Islamic toys, and Islamic books and stickers from this store and everything is GREAT. The English kids books are beautiful and quite intellectually written, so much so that an adult can enjoy them. Mashallah.

HIGHLY recommend this store!!!

Happy last day of Ramadan All!!!

Looking for a Home Business?

I ran across a product that labels itself "Halal Body Care" (no alcohol or animal byproducts) called HUSSANA, made by the same people who own http://www.thehijabshop.com/ (who BTW sell some REALLY cute modest tops and bottoms from the UK). Anyways, I thought to share this business with you ladies who may be at home and looking for some part-time work. They are hiring "sales agents" to try to sell the products online, which would mean you would get your own website and try selling online for commission. They are also looking for retailers to stock it if you own a store. So if you want to look into it Click Here! Click Here for FREE SAMPLE!

Caftans or Kaftans?

I don't know which way to spell this word, and some just call them jilbabs or galabiya but the best source for long, simple cotton dresses that I've seen is www.aljilbab.com and the prices are great starting at about $20 and TONS of colors and patterns to choose from. If you haven't visited this site in awhile you'll notice that they now sell TUNICS too, starting at only $12! They are located in Egypt but do ship internationally at low rates. I think that most of these dresses are best worn indoors as they're made of light cotton and remind me of nightgowns, however I think some of them would look fine worn outdoors as well!
