Simple Shirts from Blah to Bling!

I have a closet full of unpatterned, simple cotton shirts and tunics (a lot of them from Shukr), and lately I've been buying some inexpensive fashion jewellery to jazz them up a bit. Can you tell these necklaces were 3 for $15? It's just a fun and frugal way to transition simple tunics into going-out-to-dinner-wear, or guest-are-coming-wear! (Or, I'm-sick-of-my-old-clothes-but-don't-want-to-buy-new-ones-wear ;)

Try Joe Fresh for Modest Clothes

Salam girls, sorry I've been away for awhile, but I'm back with tons of ideas for you! If you live in Canada I'm sure you've heard of Joe Fresh clothes - SuperStore started selling this brand a couple years ago, and I used to walk right by thinking there's NO WAY I'll buy my fashions where I buy my milk and eggs! However, I've been humbled, and urge you if you haven't already to take a look cuz you will find TONS of options for the stylish Muslim or modest woman ---> at great prices!

This coral shirt was about $24 and the pants are actually from last season and are my current favorite pants which I found on sale for under $15. Comfy cotton outfit for a casual outing.

I also own the shirt in the photo below and wear it without the belt. Notice that the sleeves button-roll up, (same on the coral shirt too) which is really useful for making wudu or doing dishes etc...!! Paying attention Muslim designers?? Functionality!

Make a SPLASH this SUMMER!

TIP: find out what the swimwear policy is in your city if you're thinking of going to the public pools, and you'll probably be pleasantly surprised. When I had no idea what the rules were, I wasn't sure if a life guard would have problems with me and that was nerve-racking, but now that I know my city actually encourages swimming in whatever you want, I feel SO much more at ease at the pool! Here's an excerpt from an article about my city's swimming policy:

"People in Calgary will now be allowed to swim in city pools wearing saris, hijabs and other religious clothing under a new policy designed to encourage ethnic and religious minorities to participate.

Heather Bruce, the city's superintendent for aquatics and fitness, said the policy clarifies what had been a grey area, typically handled on a case-by-case basis at pools across the region."We wanted to make sure that everyone feels comfortable and they can participate with dignity when they use our facilities. I think it's a tangible demonstration of our commitment to diversity to formalize the policy," Ms. Bruce said.

...The only requirements are that the clothing be clean and that swimmers shower in the garments before entering the pool."

Awesome Ideas from Artizara

Another awesome idea from Artizara : A top with detachable sleeves! I don't know how easy it is to zip the sleeves on and off of this top, but I sure do appreciate the idea!

That's what we need more of, Muslim clothing stores that think of unique & innovative designs because Muslim ladies have some subtle differences in the way we wear and use our clothes..keep it up Artizara!

HydroChic Swim Skirts & Shorts

Here's a fantastic modest swimwear site for long swim skirts and shorts! I remember when I used to swim during the Muslim women's pool-time a the YWCA, I had a hard time finding a long swim skirt or long swim shorts and ended up wearing one of my husband's shorts over my swimsuit!
