Shake those Hips!

Hey it's Jumaa - gather your girlfriends, take off that hijab and have some fun! People have been trying to get me to belly dance for years and this website might actually convince me to give it a try....look at these outfits! How beautiful!

At http://www.dancingrahana.com/ you'll find belly dancing clothes, hip scarves, coins and shakey things, jewellery, and henna! They even have tons of Arabic music, music with Drums only and even from my favorite Turkish pop star "Tarkan" (totally recommend)!

Don't forget the instructional DVD's so you know what to do with your hot little self after dressing up in all this fancy gear!

Hijab Styl'n: More Floral Wraps

2Hijab

Here's to continuing with the floral deco theme on the side of the hijab... I've been pouring over "how to" guides like this that I found on 2hijab.com and I'm finding some great stuff I'll be posting over the next few weeks!

Now apparently Egyptian hijabees are more flamboyant in their wraps, but we could definitely tone it down a bit and make looks like these suitable for the rest of us!

About that floral deco - I'm begin to realize that I'll need a whole lot of hijab pins, patience, and possibly a personal hijab stylist to get this look!

But I'll keep trying to come up with a toned down, lazy girl's version!

Not Your Mother's Jilbab!

This is for you jilbab-wearing sisters out there. Here's a store that makes jilbabs that even an ordinarily non-jilbab wearing, fashion conscious muslim woman can appreciate! WOW!! It's a UK store, so in dollars you're looking at at least $150 - but if the quality is good, I'd say it's worth it.

Visit http://www.imaancollections.com/ for more!

My favorites are below:

Who knew red patent heels could do so much for a black jilbab or abaya?

I'm going to have to save up for one of these beauties!

Spanish Style Hijab

Oh how cute! I really want to try this hijab style if someone can just tell me how to make that darned flower! I thought I was rather crafty until I tried this!

The only alternative I can think of is to buy a ready made floral pin and pin at the side of this wrap-style hijab, like the ones I've seen at H&M:

Not quite as romantic or whimsical but it could work.

If anyone knows how to get that floral deco let me know!

VIDEO of Muslim Fashion Designer Brooke Samad

I found this video of Brooke Samad, designer of http://www.maraboonline.com/ (whom I interviewed last year).

Got me thinking, it's interesting on the internet that sometimes you're not quite sure if someone you read about wears hijab until you see a photo or video!

Anyways, check it out, she seems sooo nice:

Modest Girls Clothes by Hannah Lise

Here's another source offering modest clothing for your little muslim girls... http://www.hannahlise.com/

Their outfits are a bit more traditional and "cutesy" - my girls are getting older and moving away from these styles but I can still see them wearing some of the outfits like the ones on the left. By the way, they are not home-sewn, rather a collection of modest clothes from different makers.

It's becoming harder and harder to find any skirts in the stores - even on Eid!

Note: I haven't ordered from here before. If you have, please leave a comment!

Long Hair Solution for the Sisters

Salam,

I mentioned this website before http://www.cjhats.com/ but now I've actually tried the "Snood" and I love it for those times when you don't want a big hair bun under your hijab.

For example, have you ever been at the movies and felt bothered leaning back because of your bun? You know what I'm talking about!

Anyways this is basically just a hijab undercap which is very long in the back and fully encloses the hair. See pics below:

Very good quality sewing and soft fabric. Hope this helps some long haired sisters lean back, and relax!

"Aab" Abaya Review

Salam,

I received the cozy cowl abaya by http://www.aabuk.com/ and here's my review:

I picked this dress because I think the simplicity of the design leaves a lot of room for accessorizing - which is what I wanted to do! I also adore cowl-necks because tucking a hijab into them looks really chic and it's really comfy having the hijab out of the way like that. Try it!

I found this balloon sleeve sweater in a pinkish-brown color that matches nicely with the dress and then accessorized with this chunky bead necklace in similar colors.

I ordered according to the sizes they give on the website and when it arrived the dress was quite baggier than I like and very long. The label said not to put it in the dryer, but my guess was that washing and drying would shrink it to the right size, and I was right! It came out of the dryer a bit softer, and now fit perfectly!

The service was great, the website is very professional, and I love the cut and style of this garment. The one thing I didn't love about this dress was the fabric. When I read the description online it said " soft brushed cotton" but the fabric was not as soft as I imagined. It has a very visible weave which is more apparent in person than the image online. It would be breathable in warmer weather I suppose, just not exactly what I was expecting.

None-the-less, I got many compliments on this outfit! Check out http://www.aabuk.com/ to see their stuff for yourself...
