Wide Legs Are Everywhere!

Salam! I was so excited and inspired during my last visit to the mall by the suddenly huge selection of super-wide, conservative, and beautiful pants that, when worn with knee-length tops or dresses, make a very modern yet modest ensemble.

For me, this means a lot more choices when shopping at the mall (since long skirts or hard to find).
The photos below from Nordstroms.com are just a small sample of the vast selection of wide pants available this season. Of course these are all over $100 but you can find similar styles at a fraction of the price at many stores in the mall. Here are some of my favorite and least favorite styles:

Favorites

This is my number one favorite style because the shape is quite feminine, and with the crease down the front it looks professional too. With some heels and a sharp long jacket this would be a killer outfit.

You can see how if you stood with your legs together it would almost look like you were wearing a skirt because of the flared cut. Beauiful!

This is my favorite casual wide leg pant. It's called a sailor style; the bottoms have a cuff and the cut is straight.

A pair of these in cotton or linen would be so nice and light for spring and summer...not to mention how practical this would be for active days playing in the park.

Least Favorite

This is my least favorite wide leg style pant. The narrow thigh and bell bottom look waaaay too 70's. Maybe with a long top it would look okay, I don't know. It just isn't do'in it for me!

Scouting for Muslim Fashion

Salam All...been scouting around the Muslim clothing shops online to see what's new. Here's some of what I found:

Shukrclothing.com is having a huge winter blowout sale, with 138 items on sale up to 70% off. Most of the sale stuff I saw were actually more like 40-50% off but that's still good savings. There's tons of shirts and skirts for $34.95 which I think is a bargain because the quality is top notch. So if you like Shukr, it's a good time to stock up.

Thehijabshop.com has introduced a new range called Afifah which is made up of modern but modest tops and bottoms. The styles remind me a bit of Shukr but are original enough that you definitely could not call it imitation.

There's an introductory sale going on now with prices starting at 15 UK pounds. Blimey, that's only about $30 US mate! But how much is shipping to North America?...hmm, that's always a factor when ordering from overseas.

By the way, there's about a billion hijabs on this website if you need one to match your new outfit.

I noticed that my favorite modest swimwear maker Ahiida has come out with a few new designs and colors. There's more purple, pink and bright green colors to choose from. Right. Personally, I like good old blue because I don't like to stick out more than I already do once I'm in the water, but maybe you all are just bolder than I.

I think they're kind of moving in the wrong direction...I mean I was so impressed with the professional, athletic look of their swimwear. Again, maybe it's just me, so feel free to leave a comment and tell me so.

Rebirthofchic.com has a really fun shirt for the young muslimahs, or youngish anyways. I think they're onto something with this style. It's modest, feminine and fun! More the style I can imagine muslim teens wearing than their other stuff which is so chic that it probably makes the rest of us feel like slobs.

They should definitely make more long tops like this in all sorts of fun patterns and colors. Or at least someone should. And not in cotton please because it's too darn wrinkly. I love Shukr's long tops but the ironing is starting to drive me mad.

Check out Rebirthofchic's hijabs; they have some nice ones.

New Store Alert! NahidFashions.com

So I got an email the other day from nahidfashions.com urging me to check out their new store, and I took a look around... Overall I was pretty excited and impressed by the designs, but I was a bit frustrated with the website.

The loading time of some pages was longer than it should be, and a few pages even came up with errors. The site is a bit cluttered and hard to navigate around. These are technical issues of course, but with a more professional, functional website, they would have a better chance of attracting customers. When it comes to the actual clothing, the prices are on the high end but still affordable and they have a few unique ideas and designs that may appeal to Muslim women:

1) They sell their outfits as sets, so for example a long blouse will come with matching pants/skirt and a matching scarf. A time-saver for lazy shoppers like me.

  • 2) They offer a service where you can customize your own outfit. Let's say you like one of the sets but would prefer it came with a skirt instead of pants, they can apparently do that for you to your measurements.

The designs definitely have flair - fun colors, bold patterns, unique cuts...It's worth checking out, and it's got a lot of potential. If you're like me however, you may be weary of ordering from a site that doesn't appear absolutely professional. If anyone orders from this store leave a comment and let us know how it worked out!
